Ernst Lothar

Born in Vienna, Austria to a Jewish family in 1906, as Ernest Lothar Deutsch. His mother painted as a hobby, and he showed talent as soon as he could hold a pencil. As a youth he studied at the Academy of Fine and Applied Arts from 1922-1926, under Professor Adolf Boehm. After leaving the Academy he concentrated on copying old masters of the Italian School in the Kunsthistorichen Museum. Eugenio Fernandez Granell and he coincided in exile in the Dominican Republic.

In Santo Domingo, he was a teacher at the National School of Fine Arts. In his painting, color does not dominate the line, but rather the line and color balance each other, so much so that the painter's will becomes the needle of the balance formed by these two pans of equal weight. It is a special balance that he attains with his line effects and his conscious touches, of an artisan, with color.

Balance that seems to have overcome the law of gravity, also that of breathing and that of the splitting up of light by a prism, as well as all of the laws of dynamics together. Nació en Viena en una familia judía en el año 1906, como Ernst Lothar Deutsch. Su madre pintaba como hobby y el demostró un talento desde que podía sostener un lápiz. De joven estudió en la Academia de las Bellas Artes Aplicadas desde el año 1922 hasta el 1926, bajo el profesor Adolf Boehm. Después de salir de la Academia se concentró en copiar los viejos maestros de la escuela Italiana en el Museo de Kunsthistorichen. Eugenio Fernández Granell y el coincidieron en el exilio en la República Dominicana.

En Santo Domingo fue profesor de la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes. En su pintura, el color no dominan la línea, pero prefiere la línea y el color balanceados mutuamente. Es un equilibrio especial que logra con sus toques conscientes, de un artesano, con color y sus efectos de línea.

Un equilibrio que parece haber superado la ley de gravedad, también el de la respiración y de la división de la luz por un prisma.
